"What?" I gasped.
"I'm sorry Mr Watkins, but you are not Rhys's biological father." The doctor said gravely. "I'm sure it will be hard for you to adjust at first, but it will be okay. If you view him as your son, then you'll still be able to love him as if he was your own."
I looked at Sean and felt as if I could kiss him. He'd helped me so much...more than he'd ever know. He smiled at me, flashing the white of his teeth, and gave me a nod.
"C'mon, Ian. Let's go. I'll drive you home, and you can give Gina a ring once you're inside, and you'll be able to sort everything out with her, yeah?" Sean said.
His fingers slipped from mine, ad he picked Rhys up. He carried him all the way to the car for me, and set him down on the floor. I watched Sean's fingers intently as they fumbled in his pocket for his car key. Upon finding it, Sean winked at me, and leapt into his car.
He then proceeded to drive to my house, as I gave him directions. I couldn't keep my eyes from his face the whole journey as I directed him. Sean pulled up outside my flat, and turned off the ignition. He leaned back in his chair and looked at me. I looked back at him curiously.
"Well aren't you going to invite me in?" he asked cockily. "Do you want me to be there when your ex girlfriend comes over? I mean, if you needed me there for the DNA test, then..."
I was a bit taken aback by Sean's offer, but I wasn't about to refuse him - I knew that Gina was incredibly stubborn and wouldn't give up without a fight. So I nodded, and Sean followed me up the stairs and into my scruffy flat.
He took a seat on my old, dirty sofa, and it surprised me just how much he stood out. My flat was dark and dirty, and Sean seemed to emit light as he sat on the sofa - he looked like an angel.
I leafed through the phone book, my eyes scanning page after page until I found her - Gina Hughes. I picked up the phone, my fingers hovering over the buttons. Sean placed a hand on my shoulder and I felt his breath on my ear.
"What are you waiting for? Call her and tell her, she needs to know..." he murmured, his warm breath tickling my ear.
I looked quickly at him, and then looked back at the phone number. My fingers hovered for a few more moments before I punched in the numbers and held the phone to my ear. I took a seat on the sofa as I heard it ringing, and Sean sat next to me, his foot touching mine slightly.
"Um...hi Gina..." I murmured quietly.
"Who is this?" she asked breezily.
"Why the fuck are you calling?" she yelled abruptly.
"How long were you planning on keeping it a secret from me, eh?"
"Be round at my place now. We need to sort this out. What the hell possessed you to leave him on my doorstep I don't know, but..."
"Shut up. I'll be round your place in five minutes, and we'll talk it through like adults."
She slammed the phone down and I raised my eyebrows before delicately replacing the phone back where it came from.
"Well?" said Sean. "What's going on?"
"She's coming round." I sighed. "Expect a shouting match. Do you want to go? She'll probably think you're my boyfriend and be rude to you."
Sean gave me a cheeky smile.
"I've stayed with you this far, what's the point in me leaving now? And besides, who cares what she thinks? Shall I play along with her thoughts to bug her?"
"If you want..." I blushed, wishing furiously I wasn't. Sean as unlike anyone I'd ever met before. He'd stuck with me as soon as I'd spoken to him at our meeting, and it didn't seem like he was going to ditch me any time soon.
It was then that it finally hit me that I fancied Sean. I knew he was the sort of guy that I fell head over heels for as soon as I saw him.
I was falling for Sean.
